Today I´m going to share with you 7 Things To Avoid when Private Labeling Your First Product To Sell On Amazon:
1.- Make sure you are ungated in that category, for example, if you are selling food or vitamins, you need permission to sell in that category.
2.- Do not make emotional decisions. This is a business and you need to treat it like a business. The data doesn´t lie, and you need to make data-driven decisions.
3.- NO BABY ITEMS; you will need extra certifications; child product certificates, maybe some extra health and safety certificates.
4.- No fragile Items; you don´t want things that are going to break. Depending on where you are shipping your items from, it could be from Asia, from Canada, or Mexico. Imagine how they are going to treat your box. It´s a risk.
5.- Avoid heavy Items: choose less than 2 pounds that fit in a shoebox.
6.- Avoid Lithium Batteries and Hazardous Materials: there are rules and regulations. Something you can do is to have them made in USA and have them private label.
7.- Make sure the item on the first page is not a name-brand; by that I mean, when you are going to sell for example a coffee maker, and you type “coffee maker” on Amazon and the first page you will find is, for example, Mr. Coffee then let me tell you…there is too much competition.
Also, there is something called the law of familiarity. Let me try to explain this with an example. Think back to when you were a kid and try to remember for example the brand your mother or your grandmother used for washing your clothing.
